Comenzó como un sábado complicado cualquiera y se desarrolló de una forma fabulosa. Todo encajó en el Plan Divino y resultó siendo un día espectacularmente especial. Yo propuse y Dios dispuso que la jornada soleada fuera como fue y que terminara la tarde junto a él. Gracias, Señor, por todo lo bueno y lo que no lo es tanto.

Nature #fmsphotoaday #fms_nature #fmspad #may #mayo #2017 Whenever I'm coming back from anywhere at the "Cibao" (a region in the DR) I have to make a "pit stop" to get mom some cashews, locally grown and sold in "recycled" (to use a word) mayonnaise jars, and some roasted sweet potatoes. Now these sweet potatoes have a peculiarity: the locals make a hole on the ground, they fill it with carbon, they light it up, then they throw the sweet potatoes in there, they seal the hole again with the previously removed soil and let it cook until perfection. Nature's own oven! The result is the set up on the side of the highway alongside the cashews, on a contraption made out of a zinc sheet and wood, always accompanied by a battered smoking can.

¡Dije que no! 125/365 #project365 #mayo #may #2017 Hoy a mis hijos felinos les tocaba visita al vet para vermífugo, pero la señorita #guinevere (la "jíbara" del grupo) se plantó en cuatro patas (y dentadura completa) y dijo que no, que nadie iba para allá a "babear" con esa medicina tan desagradable. Las cortadas y los anticoagulantes no son muy amigos, así que la visita se pospuso para la semana que viene para así poder atender las heridas de la caretaker (y el real sangrero que aquí no se ve porque ya estaba en proceso de cura), fuera de que es bastante desagradable). No la juzguen, la pobrecita sólo estaba tratando de evitar el paseo.

Sometimes mom forgot it was Friday and we broke tradition, so in order to never forget she "issued a decree" stating we would always eat fish on Fridays. Side plates vary each week, but fish and rice with corn are always present. Aside from the "tostones" (fried plantain" and the soda, this is a very healthy meal (but who needs a completely healthy meal anyways?).

Caliente, caliente, picante, picante, y sigue Vickiana pa' lante, pa' lante 123/365 #project365 #may #mayo #2017 Tapón del medio día, el sol en sus buenas, 20 minutos parada en la Tiradentes con Roberto Pastoriza, mil diligencias por hacer. Siento el olor peculiar del coolant caliente, miro la pantalla y sale humo de ella mientras el medidor de la temperatura sube y "suena" a "hirviendo". El lío para poder, en medio del tapón y la falta de educación de los demás conductores, estacionarme en un lugar que no afecte el tránsito. Al final se le cambiaron todas las mangueras al radiador por precaución (tienen 10 años cogiendo "piña") pero resulta que el coolant pasa por la calefacción del aire (¿quién necesita calefacción en el Caribe?) y la tubería se había corroído. La edad comienza a pesarle a Vickiana. Aún así la amo. Ahora el aire enfría más, go figure.

It was my uncle's last novena of mourning at La Vega; my mom was feeling a little under the weather so I hit the road by myself. I was a little apprehensive at first because it has been raining cats and dogs for the past few days and rivers are flooded, causing many roads to be closed, especially in the area where I was traveling to. Nevertheless, I was blessed with good weather for the better part of the trip. I love driving and I love driving long distances by myself even more. It gives me a chance to enjoy myself and the beautiful scenery along the way.

I have been to this church many times and yet I had never noticed this.
