Hands #fmsphotoaday #fms_hands #november #2016 Almost 2 years ago mom almost lost this hand to an infection caused by an IV while she was getting blood transfusions to save her life from an pneumonia that got complicated and almost took her life as well. When dad was alive they used to sleep holding hands and every once in a while she checked to see if he was still there, breathing by her side. I've been sleeping with her ever since dad passed away and now she holds my hand while we sleep and touches my face to check if I'm there, breathing besides her.

On my plate #fmsphotoaday #fms_onmyplate #november #2016 Friday's at my mom's are fish and rice with corn day. It has been raining non-stop for the past few weeks (if not months) in some parts of my country and rivers are dangerously overflowing. The little town where my mom was born, Arenoso, is flooded by the waters of the Yuna river. I have relatives who live there, thankfully they're ok since they live in a two-story concrete house, but they've had no electricity or food for the past days. All the crops have gone to waste, animals have drowned, basic infrastructure have collapsed, people have lost their houses and belongings, they're in a state of emergency right now. I'm thankful that I have food on my plate, running water and electricity today, I will sleep in a cozy bed and maybe even with some tv; my uncle and aunt and the rest of the Dominicans who live on the disaster areas aren't so lucky. My cousin had to almost swim to get to his house earlier in order to bring his parents some food today (they don't want to leave because they're afraid to lose what little they have left to burglars), since the town is literally in communicated due to the flood, unaccessible via land vehicles. Meanwhile, the authorities are nowhere to be found (as usual). If you are a believer, please say a prayer not only for the inhabitants of Arenoso but for the rest of those living on the affect communities of the Dominican Republic. I'm thinking about going over to Arenoso on Sunday, if the weather permits and if Vicikiana (my SUV) decides to use on her old diving fins, after confirming with my cousin that the highway is secure enough for travel. May God have mercy on all of us. If there is any way you. An help, please let me know and I'll set up something with my cousin.

I'm thankful for... #fmsphotoaday #fms_thankful #november #2016 This has been the worst year of my life so far. I lost my father in May and my life has been turned upside down ever since. I know I'm depressed but I've been trying really hard for it not to majorly screw my life this time around. When the dark thoughts approach me, I force myself to think about the good things in my life and little by little the thoughts go back into their corner, at least for a short while. That is why I'm thankful, for having had the chance to enjoy my father for 42 years, for still having my mother around, for my family even though we're not in the best moment right now, for my friends and extended family, for my pets, for my faith, for my job (even in times of "drought"), for having a roof over my head and food on my table, for breathing, for my wrecked health (still healthier than others), for each and every problem that makes me grow stronger, even for those people who annoy me and make my life colorful. For that and for many things more, I am grateful and thank the Lord. Now, I don't know about you, but this angel-shaped wick have me hope today. Even for that I'm grateful. #thanksgiving

A plane leaves every day 321/366 #project366 #november #2016 Today I was almost mugged by a "motorista" when I got to my friend's building. I was walking towards the entrance when this guy on a bike approached me from behind and told me "don't move". I ignored him and continued walking and shouted "guard, open the door, this guy wants to rob me" while the guy was still telling me to stop. The guard acted quickly and opened the door, the thief stared at me while still on his bike and left. I knew it was bound to happen soon, criminality has risen scarily in my country these past few years, alongside with corruption and poverty. I just never thought I would react this way. I'm sure I'm alive because dad protected me from up there. When things like this happen, all I can think of is leaving the country in search of new horizons, but then I think about my family and friends and how I'm not about to let my beautiful island sink in the hands of these antisocial individuals, so I'm gonna stay and fight for a better tomorrow. I'm still trembling, though.
